 Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteers are needed for Karibu event in Heywood
This event invites people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate African culture. It will include musical and dance performances, food, national costume and much more.
Festival volunteers will help set up the event, and act as stewards for the event.
The event is on Saturday 31st July and is from 5pm to 11pm, transport is available from Rochdale.

HAVE YOU GOT GOOD IT SKILLS?

Could you support people to use IT? I.T Mentors are needed to provide one to one support to the elderly in a sheltered housing scheme.
A basic knowledge of IT is required and lots of patience to show people who have little or no experience of computers or how to use internet, e-mail and basic Microsoft Packages.
Someone who speaks Urdu would be a great advantage, because English is not the first language of many of our residents. Volunteers need to be able to demonstrate an understanding of the use of internet, setting up e-mail addresses and use of Microsoft Word.

Knowledge of other Microsoft Packages would be an advantage.

For further information please contact  Connie at c.cryer@cvsr.org.uk

DO YOU HAVE A COUPLE OF HOURS TO SPARE ON A REGULAR BASIS?

COULD YOU ACCOMPANY A CHILD OR YOUNG PERSON WITH A DISABILITY TO ACCESS MAINSTREAM ACTIVITIES?

We are hoping to recruit VOLUNTEERS for a Befriending Scheme to start as soon as possible.

The scheme involves linking an approved and trained Befriender with a child with disabilities, who will be between 8 and 19 years of age, in order to support them in accessing mainstream activities. This could be evening classes, swimming lessons, going to social events or joining an activity club. This could be at a regular time every week, at weekends, or maybe just in the school holidays. The Befriender is a Volunteer and will be paid only expenses incurred.

If you think this is something for you and would like to volunteer, please contact us. Anyone over the age of 18 can apply.

THE HELPING HANDS BEFRIENDING SERVICE

In a world that is ever changing and where uncertainties are a common feature in all of our lives, we can all feel a bit lost at times and just need a friend to help us on our way. THE HELPING HANDS BEFRIENDING SERVICE is a brand new scheme which offers residents in Rochdale the opportunity to meet up with a volunteer befriender who will support them by getting together for a brew and a chat, giving some low key support e.g. helping them to understand letters or signposting them to relevant support agencies, and simply offering a compassionate listening ear.

We are a Barnardo's project and we work with anyone aged 16+ who is living in social housing or receiving support from an agency (i.e. any kind of support agency), in particular older people and women who have experienced domestic violence.

We are currently recruiting volunteers; would you be interested in being part of a vibrant team who offer this important service? You would
receive full training, support, supervision, expenses and management through Barnardo's.

If you are interested in volunteering in this field, get in touch with us.

Do You Like Dogs?

Could you volunteer as a dog walker for an older person?
Take a pet to the vets?
Or even foster a pet while someone is in hospital?
Opportunities are available in your area.

Do you belief in fair trade?

Do you enjoy engaging with other people?
Would you like to get experience in retail?
If your answer is “YES” then we have a volunteering opportunity for you.

Would you like to act as an advocate for a person with learning difficulties by speaking out with them or on their behalf. An advocate helps the person they are partnered with to have their views, opinions and concerns heard by others. They can work on a wide range of issues, from helping someone to get involved in activities in their local community to attending meetings with them to help them ask questions. This is an opportunity to make a real difference to another person's quality of life.

How about volunteering as a Costumed Guide and/or Story-teller.
Giving a warm and friendly welcome to all visitors and giving a
perspective of an historical character using the historic factsheet provided? You would help interpret the building and exhibits to a
variety of visitors, e.g. family groups, railway enthusiasts, visitors with access requirements.

DO YOU WANT EXPERIENCE IN RETAIL?

We are looking for dynamic helpers for a high class charity shop - someone who can use their initiative and make a difference for a good cause.

If you would like to get that experience and make that difference the experience will be rewarding to you and to the charity concerned.

HELP URGENTLY NEEDED

Do you drive and have your own car? Are you able to give a few hours each week?
If you are under 70 and have a few hours to spare would you like to do something really useful and rewarding?
How about becoming a
volunteer driver; helping frail and elderly people get to and from Hospital, other health related appointments, shopping and social trips.
You will be reimbursed your fuel expenses at a rate of 40p per mile.
There are other benefits, not to mention the ‘feel-good factor’ of being part of a highly thought of and valuable service.
