Information Update on National Minimum Wage

Information from DLP:

Please be advised that there has been recent emphasis regarding an employer’s duties in the matter of the national minimum wage. In a recent legal case, an employer was been found to be paying employees at a rate below the national minimum wage. This was treated as a criminal matter and tried in the criminal courts. As a consequence, the employer received a fine of almost £4,000 AND a criminal record.

An outline of the current statutory rates of minimum wage is included below for your information:

Under 18 years of age £3.57
18 – 21 years of age £4.83
22+ years of age £5.80

As you can see, it is of utmost importance that employers comply and ensure that employees are paid at the rate of national minimum wage or above in order to protect both themselves and the Company.
