Rochdale Borough is one of the most deprived areas of the country. This is reflected in low economic growth, poor life expectancy, higher crime levels, low skills, high levels of children and pensioners living in poverty, and poor physical environment.
However, change has been happening over the last few years. This summary picks out some of the areas of success in the borough, and the areas of concern where we need to work harder.

The ICT Strategy for England's Northwest has been written to be accessible to businesses and individuals alike, while also providing direction to the Public, Private and Voluntary sectors who serve them.
It seeks to influence the behaviour of both organisations and people and secure greater awareness, increase skills levels, and harness the benefits of ICT in the Northwest.
Pride of Place will affect everyone who has an interest in the borough. So, although the legal duty for ensuring that the borough has a community strategy lies with Rochdale Borough Metropolitan Council, the Council and its partners have collaborated to ensure that the strategy reflects the views of local people, community groups, and other organisations. They have developed the structure of the Rochdale Borough Local Strategic Partnership for this purpose
The Strategy sets out the Council's vision and key priorities in order to improve the social and economic well being of our older people.
Strategy vision & aimsBy 2009 Rochdale Borough will be a place where we recognise, encourage and appreciate older people's contributions to all aspects of community life and help them to remain healthy, active and independent for longer.
'Homeless' covers a wide range of circumstances from sleeping on the streets, to families living in bed and breakfast hotels to being without a home of their own. In official terms, the first category is rough sleepers and the others are homeless. The vast majority of 'homeless' people are actually families or single people who are not literally on the street but living with relatives and friends or in temporary or inappropriate accommodation.
